How to Clean and Organize Your Room
Cleaning and Organizing your Bedroom
Does your bedroom look more like a pig sty? Is it the place where everything seems to end up? Don't worry its actually really easy to clean and organize your room - and keep it that way!
Organizing is the key to keeping your room clean. That way everything has its place and you know exactly where to put it. Clutter is a problem for most people and it can make your room seem even messier than it is.
By breaking down the task into smaller steps it's less daunting and easier to work through and complete, so follow these simple steps to cleaning and organizing your room and you'll have it looking spick and span in no time!
Break your room down into sections
Tackling your room in one go is a big task and sometimes it is so daunting that you'll just keep putting it off. The solution? Break your room down into smaller areas.
Let's take your average bedroom. You may have;
- Wardrobe
- Side table
- Bed
- Dresser
- Bookshelf
- Bed
- Cabinet etc.
Write up a schedule, stick to it!
As the old saying goes "fail to plan, plan to fail" - the easiest way to ensure you'll actually clean and organize your entire room is to make a plan.
You might want to tackle your room in one day or weekend or you might have a busy schedule and only be able to do it at certain times. Get out your planner or a piece of paper and draw up a schedule.
Say, for instance, you may work 5 days a week and only have an hour spare a day to devote to your room - your schedule might look like this
Mon: side table
Tue: dresser
Wed: bookshelf
Thu: bed
Fri: cabinet
Sat: wardrobe
Sun: general room tidy
Cleaning your room one step at a time
Let's take your wardrobe, for example. You'll first need to clear out your wardrobe and sort out the old clothes from those that you currently wear. Decide what you're going to throw out or donate and what you're going to keep.
Now when you put your clothes back into your wardrobe, sort them so that you have somewhat of a system. You may want to divide it into sections (eg. pants, skirts, dresses...) or you may want to sort it according to the season or dress clothes/casual clothes/work clothes. This way you can easily find your clothes and you're less inclined to mess them up when you're desperately searching for your gray pants and tearing through the wardrobe.
Once you're organized, clean up!
Once you've sorted out your different areas, be sure to give them a good clean. This means vacuuming under your bed, dusting and wiping down surfaces etc. This way you can easily keep your room clean in the future - and your room will look so much better!
Stay on top of it!
You've cleaned and organized your room, but you want to keep it that way! Make sure you put things away where they're supposed to go, give it a once over each week and make sure if you bring anything new into your room it has a place too.
